Found Out About You
Good morning, my Lovelies! Here's hoping that the day treats you well and that there are good things waiting for you when all the work is done. Can I tell you a secret? I'm horrible at keeping secrets. I really do try, but somehow or another they almost always slip out. Lucky for those that tell me their secrets, it's usually my husband who gets to hear them and, well, he never talks to anyone but me, so those secrets are still pretty much secret.
I've told you all that, as with most writers, I pull from my life experiences and expand on those to fit the situation that I'm going for in my work. And I'm fairly certain that I've told you that the characters in my books are usually some crazy mix of attributes from people that I've met through the years and the stories they've shared.
What does this have to do with secrets? Well, quite a bit when I take a true story, change the names and use it in my work. When I tell you to be careful about what you say around me because you may end up in one of my books, I'm seriously not joking. So, yes, there are bits and pieces of things that have really happened within my stories, and one of those things I posted about this week on my social media. It's also one of those things that I wasn't supposed to tell.
Let me set the scene for you.
A group of friends, all female, with that one lone male who always seems to show up, sitting around, talking, drinking, telling stories, and having a blast. Somehow, someway, the conversation turns to genital piercings. (I still don't know how this happened, but with this particular group, anything is possible.) After much discussion, the observant one in the bunch (me) notices that the lone male has gotten very quiet and somewhat contemplative. Now, me being me, I extrapolate from his behavior and put him on the spot.
Yes, it turns out that he has his penis pierced. (No, he didn't show us! Friends...just friends!) Of course, then the questions began. Why? When? What gage is the piercing? As it turns out, he got it on a dare by his brothers. A dare. He didn't even want it, but because he takes being dared seriously, he got it. Now, you tell me...how could I NOT use that in one of my books? Priceless!
Sometimes real life is so much more outrageous than our fantasies. I'm finding more and more when I write, that using this crazy combination of reality and fantasy actually works well. Bits of truth embellished with a hefty dose of fantasy makes for some amazing scenarios.
Again, you've been warned. You never know when or what I might throw in my stories, whether it is clandestine meetings in a park, sexual encounters between strangers poolside when the rest of the party-goers move indoors, or even on an office desk while everyone else is on their lunch break. Hell, it could even be in the back of a van in the Walmart parking lot.
Just know that even if I tell the stories, I will never tell the names. My friends, after all, are just that. My friends.
Until next time, and as always,
