The Chain
Good afternoon, my Lovelies! It is the weekend and so far mine has been wonderful! I know I'm late getting my blog out, and I apologize. Let me tell you a bit about why I'm late this week.
I wrote a blog on Thursday. I worked hard on it in the short time I had available to do so, and as I was about to post it, I stopped and re-read all I had written. Garbage. Complete garbage. I don't like complaining and that was all I saw when I did my final read-through. I had been letting my thoughts marinate for the better part of a week and all I saw was trash. So even though I'm late and I absolutely despise being late, you're welcome. The fact that I am unbelievably anal about my writing has saved you from the misery of my doldrums.
So, let's go a completely different route and discuss connections. Does anyone else find it absolutely mind-blowing that one connection can lead to so many different things and so many different people? I mean I've always kind of done the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" thing with the people I meet, but I don't think I had any kind of idea or had ever thought of just how far-reaching those connections can be.
Sometimes it is all about being in the right place at the right time. Others it's about knowing the right person. Then, of course, there are the "out of the blue," completely unexpected connections. Being old enough to remember making connections before the power of the internet, I can honestly say that the world of social media has opened us to so many more possibilities for these connections. Worlds that would have previously been completely out of reach, or at the very least highly unlikely, are suddenly at our fingertips.
I mean how else would a new and struggling author who knows absolutely nothing about how to get published and make it in the book world, get the opportunity to know and work with an internationally known book cover model, and the amazing photographers that they themselves work with on a regular basis? I've said before how excited I am to work with this model, and hopefully, having access to such a large community of people will be fruitful for all involved.
That being said, it seems that while social media is opening doors that might otherwise have remained closed, certain apps are also controlling just how much exposure we get once those doors are actually unlocked. I can't tell you how frustrating it has been to watch my social media presence (which at one time was booming) struggle to grow, and therefore my books struggle to sell. Algorithm suppression and blocked content be damned!
On behalf of all creators and creative businesses out there, please help us beat the suppression. Don't just follow us and then not like and share our content! I mean, there was a reason you followed us in the first place! The more you like, share and comment on what we post, the better and easier it is for us to continue doing what we love to do.
Entertain you.
