As Long As You Love Me

Good afternoon, my Lovelies!

Many of you have been with me since the beginning of this blog, but I've recently gained a ton of new followers who are interested in me. (Look, I don't know why either, but here we are.)

So, I'm going to take a few minutes and introduce myself.

I was born and raised in western Kentucky. I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone. I spent my early childhood taking ballet and tap, playing softball and basketball. I spent my summers on Kentucky Lake camping and fishing. Not much makes me happier than camping out under the stars and listening to the lake lap at the shore while a campfire sparks into the night.

Yes, I know how to camp and fish. I know how to clean, load, and shoot guns. (I'm not a bad shot, either.) I'm also a certified archery instructor and spent quite a few years teaching archery to my Girl Scout troop.

I became interested in learning how to play different instruments as a pre-teen and taught myself piano. I also joined the school band and can play clarinet, saxophone, flute, oboe, and marimba. I actually spent my first year in college as a music major. College party life got me, and I bowed out for a few years.

When I decided to go back, I went a different direction and now have a paralegal degree. I got my degree while working full-time running a law office, and somehow or another managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA. That's kind of crazy to me, as I was often told I would never amount to much when I was growing up. (Yay for undiagnosed ADHD!)

I got married pretty young to an emotionally abusive man who also liked to point out that I was worthless. Please note that those behaviors didn't appear until after we were married. The day he got physical with his abuse is when I decided I was done. When I divorced him, I headed to the East Coast, leaving everything I've ever known behind.

Writing has always been something that soothed my soul. It was a way to get my thoughts out of my head. A way to make sense of what I was thinking and feeling. I constantly get asked when I started writing, and I honestly couldn't tell you. I feel as if I've always written. I did not, however, complete and publish my first book until 2020. (One of the only good things to come out of a global pandemic.)

I've worked in a wide variety of areas. I've worked in a grocery store and in a sewing factory. I've been a legal secretary, office manager, and paralegal. I've been a paraeducator in the elementary schools. I've worked as a personal trainer at a gym. I've worked in sexual and reproductive health, child health, and with the State's immunization program. (For the record, if you go to a sexual and reproductive health clinic for an STD check, please don't ask out the clerk taking your information. You just make us giggle and roll our eyes. We KNOW why you're there, dudes.)

I tried the full-time author thing for a bit, but life demanded I head back to work, and I now work as a Management Analyst. Fun stuff.

I still hope this full-time author gig will happen for me someday and continue to work toward that goal. I will never stop chasing that dream.

I currently have 12 books published, and my 13th arrives this month. My fan base continues to grow and with any luck, will boom at some point, so I can make my writing my main focus again.

I have two grown children who are the light of my life, as well as three cats who like to drive me insane at the same time they offer me comfort.

I like to say I'm an open book. I'm always willing to answer questions. You guys just have to be willing to ask.

Photography is a passion of mine. Going out and photographing the world around me helps heal something deep within my soul, and I enjoy sharing my photos with you guys. I don't always know what I'm doing, but sometimes I luck into some good shit.

Anyway, this is just a little bit about me. Most of you know me for my tattoos, boobs, and books. I just wanted you to know there's more to me than what you see at first glance.

If this is your first time here, there are years and years of blogs in my archive. Please feel free to read through them. You'll get a better idea of just how fun I am. Or crazy. Or both. You can also sign up to have my blog delivered directly to your inbox. I have no set schedule. You get what you get when you get it.

For now, I'll sign off this blog as I always do.

Until next time and always...

Have courage. Be kind. Be happy!

Much love, craziness, and feralness from me to you,

Shelly (a/k/a Dawn Love)
